Flying solo

Almost two weeks in and living in Romania has become the norm. It feels so comfortable that there are times where it borderlines boring. I'm settling into a routine and have adopted certain lifestyle practices - have essentially immersed myself into the culture and it doesn't feel like I'm really a tourist anymore.

Beautiful field of sunflowers!!!! I have decided sunflowers are my new favourite flowers :)

Here's everything in a nutshell:

- My weekend was eventful - too much alcohol in my system. Literally drinking something everyday. I've been trying to learn how to drink beer since Romania is pretty heavy on their beer intake...So let's just say, I can get by now. I still don't LOVE the taste, but I'm better than I was before. PROGRESS.

- Thursday night we had dinner at a friend's dormitory and got to meet a bunch of people from Cameroon and Senegal. Friendliest and warmest people ever. Friday night, went out Salsa dancing...but I should be more specific - I sat and drank my beer while my pro friends danced. Saturday night, AIESEC party and more clubbing. Out out out every day and night. Living it up here, I suppose?

- Sunday, we took a trip outside of Galati to visit a monastery up in the forest. Been having such good days! Interesting fact: birds shat on me three times that day. WHAT THE FRICK?

- Observation: all the houses we drove past on the way there (i.e. in the villages) had a bench built in front of their gates. All the old people would just sit in front of their house and watch the world go by.

- Biggest LOL for Sunday was when we were at park and asked a girl to take a photo for us. This is how she held the camera:

And this is the result of the photo she took:

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH FAIL. FACEPALM.

- Am dreadfully homesick. My parents are adorable. I was Skyping mum today and we were talking about the FIFA finals. She said her and dad woke up early to watch the match and were rooting for opposing teams. She has a penchant for the underdogs and my dad was just blindly going for shirt colours. In the end, they were basically confused with who they were cheering for. AH LOVE.

- Speaking about FIFA, it's about 9:30pm in Romania when the game starts. I was already in my PJs with my face mask on, chilling out and ready to sleep. A bunch of AIESECers then decided to bang loudly on our door and barge into our room, demanding my roommate and I to come downstairs to watch the game. It's apparently "not something that should be missed". Anyway, one of the guys then turns to me and says "Hey, are you new here? When did you arrive?" FML. I've been here for two weeks and he couldn't recognise me because of my face mask.

- Work wise - things have been okay. Everybody knows I'm just horrible with tasks and deadlines and it's worse here because I have the freedom to work from home should I choose to. I spend my mornings doing meetings and interviews, then in the afternoon, I "work from my room". Translation: I take naps and watch TV shows. Deadline for the first marketing plan is approaching soon. Fuck.

Beehives

I'll post up the rest of the photos soon. Must suh-leep now! Ba (=bye in Romania)!
